Barnes’-own Gordon MacQuarrie, typing in his Middle Eau Claire Lake cabin, served as outdoor editor for the Milwaukee Journal beginning in 1936 and was our country’s first fulltime outdoor sports journalist. Here in Barnes, MacQuarrie wrote most of the stories of the mythical Old Duck Hunters Association, Inc. Although MacQuarrie’s stories were written more than 70 years ago, they continue to speak eloquently of the joys and sorrows of the average duck hunter. His stories still live in the hearts of many fans who worship his every word.
